Useless articles of clothing
There are two specific types of clothing that I find to not only be useless, but borderline counterproductive.
1) Ankle socks- Seriously, does anyone find these comfortable? Ignore the fact that they don’t do their job; they’re downright uncomfortable. My thought: If you have to add a little fuzzy ball to a sock to make it more functional, you probably just need to drop that sock design altogether.
2) Non-racerback bras- This one, obviously only applies to the chicks out there. I just don’t understand why bra makers waste their time and money producing non-racerback bras.

Racerbacks are BY FAR the best design; they’re functional and super, super, super comfortable. I can’t even wear any other kind. If I do, I spend my entire day focused on how annoying it is to do the thumb-under-the-shoulder-strap-grab-and-readjust-the-bra-strap motion a million times throughout the day. The racerback looks like an old fashioned bra from the front, but once the straps go over the shoulders, they then pull together in the middle of the back, thus keeping the straps from constantly slipping down. I simply can’t understand why women wear anything else. That being said, I can’t find racerbacks anywhere right now. Maybe thats Victoria’s Secret- where she stores her racerbacks.
Finally, I leave you with a very useful article of clothing (well, I consider purses as clothing b/c of their essential function in my daily sanity): The Butler Bag.

Oh. My.
I’ve seen it in person and it’s wonderful. I don’t own one, mostly b/c we’d have to take out a second mortgage to afford it, but doesn’t it look fabulous?? The bottom of the bag has compartments! Trendy. Functional. I’m in love.

I just took a pair of ankle socks off! They are perfect for shorts and running shoes.

I hate wearing any athletic socks that aren’t ankle.

Here’s the thing. If you are adjusting your bra strap, it’s because your bra doesn’t fit. I feel pretty passionately about well fitting bras and I’m afraid the racerback might be keeping your from teh best fit.

Hi,
I saw your article about bra design and just had to respond. I for one do not care for wearing racer back bras all the time because I find they make my shoulders sore.
Like you I got tired of pulling up bra straps all the time and so I invented a little something to fix the problem. It’s a small piece of specialized fabric that attaches to the underside of your bra strap to keep it from slipping. Women everywhere love it as it’s concealed, reusable, comfortable and easy to use.
You can see more on our website. It’s now for sale on our site, and will soon be in major retail stores.

I wear a lot of ankle socks, that doesn’t mean that my shoes don’t eat them frequently (hungry little buggers!). It would be cool to find a bra in my size that is actually cute! I’m usually in the bra aisle at Wal-Mart wrestling some grandma for the size I wear. Pulling the straps up is unsightly, but the least of my bra worries. :0

I agree with you on the ankle socks. I hated them when I was younger and I hate them now. No one should wear them!
Racer bra - I’m seriously considering one. The bra I have on today is going to drive me to drink! The straps keep falling down every 5 minutes and I’m NOT exaggerating. Lady Grace here I come!

I just knew sarah would comment on the bra thing. What do you do about lower - backed shirts, like wide-strapped tank tops - I have a racerback bra that I wear frequently with a couple shirts I have that require it, but it would show big time with my tank tops.
And I like ankle socks - they keep your leg line nice when you’re wearing shorts with tennis shoes, you see the ankle - and not all of them have the puff thing…
You crack me up, but the purse does look very fun.

For me, there’s a huge difference between ankle socks and no-show socks. Ankle socks = awesome. No-shows = SUCK.
I love racerbacks too. The only problem I have is that they sometimes show inside the neckline of my clothes. Convertible bras that let you cross the straps in the back work pretty well.

Three words in regards to the bra situation…Ann’s Bra Shop (if you live in the STL area). Plus they have those fancy bathing suits with all the lycra in them that keep all your fat bunches and rolls in check (for the most part).
