Today officially starts my vacation! Although it was a short week (Monday was a Holiday), I kept very, very busy at working preparing for my time off. I still have a few things to do today from home (mostly send emails) for work, but I’ll spend most of the day cleaning up the house and packing for the cruise.
Hubs works 1/2 day. He was going to be done at noon, but he worked in one final patient to help out one of our docs, so Hubs won’t be home until after 1pm.
Last night we went through the TiVo and set things to record, deleted other shows, and reset series priorities (in light of the New Big Brother Season!).
An update on the Useless Clothing post: I feel the need to clarify what I mean by ankle socks. Mostly, I’m in total disbelief that anyone supported the use of ankle socks. They roll down, they end up covering half my foot and are TOTALLY annoying and I’ve convinced myself that people who left positive ankle socks comments aren’t thinking of the same socks I am. Morgan commented about the “no-show” versus “ankle socks.” And I totally agree with her. When I say “ankle socks” I really mean the no-show socks, as seen here:

I HATE these kind of socks!
Now, what I do love (and wear) are what most people probably call Ankle socks, as shown here:

Even if the “leg” part is a little lower, I still wear them. There’s a big difference between these two pair of socks.
Does that bring anyone over to my side?
Hubs cracked up watching me read comments from people in support of ankle socks. I read, in total disbelief, about how much other people love them. But, I’m fairly certain that with the distinction, people will agree with me.
And, if not, I need new friends. Mostly because I judge my friendships based on whether people agree with me or not on the best fitting socks.
A few things on my to do list for the day:
Get money from the bank
Laundry/Pack
Charge portable electronic devices (Nintendo DS, Sirius Stiletto, DVD player)
Tidy up around the house
Call Cooper Camp to secure his reservation for next week (one day)
Call Aetna to bitch ‘em out for having my birthdate wrong which prevented me from picking up my RX last night
Finish up work stuff
Pedicure
Time to get my day started. Doopers and I have much to do!

Stacy posted this on her blog, so Hubs and I played along.

Shennie emailed me this. She took the picture one night in South Beach. They were on their way to dinner and she stopped to snap a picture of this insanity.
Knowing this is from South Beach makes a little more sense, but Holy Cannoli!

I’ve been a slacker when it comes to Menu Planning lately. I blame it on traveling. It seems like anytime I travel, it takes me longer to readjust and get back into the swing of things. My trip to Connecticut last month set me back. I’ve not really done any Menu Planning since then.
Which sucks b/c menu planning really makes my week go easier. I just haven’t had the discipline to sit down and devote the time to plan and then create the accompanying grocery list.
This will be a hectic week for Hubs and I. With today being a holiday, I’ve spent the day running errands. Dropped Coop off at Camp this morning (which went really, really well) then hit some stores in search of Cruise clothes. Found some bottoms and a few tops. Picked up Hubs at work (he had to work 1/2 day) and met up with Jennie and Ben for lunch. They met with an accountant this morning and they highly recommend her. Last year we had a college friend prepare our taxes, but I feel badly b/c she wouldn’t let us pay her for her time. We’ll probably use this gal this year (I doubt Erin will cry over not having to do another set of taxes!). So we’ll probably call Stacy later this week before we leave on vacation (although we can’t do anything until we get the cost basis for some stocks that were cashed out).
After lunch, we came home. Hubs is getting some work done and I’m working around the house. Set stuff aside for packing later this week, steam cleaned the carpet and then vacuumed, then cleaned the master bathroom. There’s a lady coming tonight to give us an estimate on cleaning our house once/month. Yea. I had to clean before the cleaning lady came over.
I hope she’s reasonably priced. Between Cooper Camp and the cleaning lady, we’ll be making some sacrifices so we can enjoy those luxuries.
Soldier left today. He’s heading back to Iraq. I wouldn’t say he’s excited to get back, but he’s looking forward to it. He said several times last night, “I hope nothing cool happened while I was gone!” We’re really proud of him. He’s working hard and doing well.
Alright, time to go pick up the Doopers! We’ve been watching him on the web cam for the last few hours. Looks like he had a great time hanging out with the other campers!

Tomorrow Cooper has an interview. A camp interview.
Thats right, Cooper is going to camp. Camp Bow Wow.
I’ve been giving Camp serious consideration lately. Hubs and I talked about it a while ago, but didn’t really act on it. After thinking about it more, we both decided that Coop deserves a fun day at Camp every once in a while.
It’s a day and a night camp. It’s a good alternative to a kennel if you’re traveling out of town. It’s also a great way to give your pooch some extra love during the day. With Hubs and I working long hours right now (see that…I’m delusional. I still talk as though one day we’re not going to be working as much), we want Cooper to enjoy his days a little more. So, probably once a week, we’ll drop him off at Camp first thing in the morning and pick him up after work.
While at Camp, he’ll get to run around with other pups and get lots of exercise. We can even keep up with him via the Camper Cameras.
All of this funness hinges on his ability to pass the interview tomorrow. He has to demonstrate that he can socialize well with other dogs and behave himself. We have no worries! He’ll be the best Camper!

There are two specific types of clothing that I find to not only be useless, but borderline counterproductive.
1) Ankle socks- Seriously, does anyone find these comfortable? Ignore the fact that they don’t do their job; they’re downright uncomfortable. My thought: If you have to add a little fuzzy ball to a sock to make it more functional, you probably just need to drop that sock design altogether.
2) Non-racerback bras- This one, obviously only applies to the chicks out there. I just don’t understand why bra makers waste their time and money producing non-racerback bras.

Racerbacks are BY FAR the best design; they’re functional and super, super, super comfortable. I can’t even wear any other kind. If I do, I spend my entire day focused on how annoying it is to do the thumb-under-the-shoulder-strap-grab-and-readjust-the-bra-strap motion a million times throughout the day. The racerback looks like an old fashioned bra from the front, but once the straps go over the shoulders, they then pull together in the middle of the back, thus keeping the straps from constantly slipping down. I simply can’t understand why women wear anything else. That being said, I can’t find racerbacks anywhere right now. Maybe thats Victoria’s Secret- where she stores her racerbacks.
Finally, I leave you with a very useful article of clothing (well, I consider purses as clothing b/c of their essential function in my daily sanity): The Butler Bag.

Oh. My.
I’ve seen it in person and it’s wonderful. I don’t own one, mostly b/c we’d have to take out a second mortgage to afford it, but doesn’t it look fabulous?? The bottom of the bag has compartments! Trendy. Functional. I’m in love.

I watched Thursday’s Oprah in which she had on Peter Walsh, Master Organizer. He associated a cluttered house with a lumpy butt. I enjoyed the show and decided that the mom in the family needs therapy. She seems very overwhelmed with life and Peter did a good job of linking that with the absolutely chaotic state of her house.
He asserts that dumping weight from your home will help you lose weight from your body. I tend to agree.
When your living space is cluttered with stuff, you’re mentally overwhelmed. You don’t know where to start and even the smallest tasks seem unsurmountable.
Knowing that, my parents should lose tons of weight after losing the below “house weight:”

I CLEANED HOUSE! I’ll have more pictures in a few days, but the 1-800-GOT-JUNK people are coming today, so I had to cull all of the departing junk.
The purging itself was exhausting. I carried tons of stuff upstairs from the basement. What will add to the workload is that my parents had their entire upstairs repainted while they’re gone, so I also have to rehang all of the pictures. I’m hoping to get the decluttering finished this morning so I can shop this afternoon/evening for different pics
Kind of a way to christen their new look in the house. New House, New Pics
The rehanging should be a breeze since I have the Black and Decker Gecko, which is the best tool for hanging pictures:

Alright, the day is young and the work is plentiful! I’m off!

My latest addiction: Fring - a program for my direct that enables me to be signed into all of the instant messenger services at once. Insane, I know.
Hubs thoughts: “Just what she needs, yet another way to stay in constant contact with the world.”
Hey! Don’t act like you don’t light up when you get an IM from an old friend!
OK, maybe “light up” is a little too…..strong for him, but still. He likes a good IM just as much as the next guy.
Hubs: “How is this any different than text messaging?”
Me: “Its like text messaging, except that you can see who’s online and it keeps a running tab of your conversation.”
Hubs: “Dumb.”

Soldier is home from Iraq! He’s on his two weeks R&R (took it early when my grandma died). He looks good! Got to see a little bit of what he does over there. He flies Unmanned Ariel Vehicles (UAVs). Only a handful of other people on the base do that. So proud of him!
Had two interesting personal comments made to me that surprised me: (1) Gal at work said to me, “I love how you interact with people. You’re engaging, you keep eye contact, you include everyone in the conversation. You’re really enjoyable to talk with.” Well, Thank you! (2) Got an email from a friend that says (paraphrasing here): “I’ve figured out why you’re a conservative. Your dad was military, you moved around a lot, you were probably a highly anxious preschooler, thats why you’re a conservative.” Gig-a-gig-a-what? Huh?
Apparently Dr. Oz was pimping Vitamin D on Opie today. I think thats the 4th time in 2 months she’s had someone on her show endorsing it. GO OPRAH!
I performed by Civic Duty. My numero uno backed out of the race (Rudy), so I like Mike. We’ll see, though. I’ll vote for McCain if he’s the nominee.
I’m off work tomorrow. Still purging at the parental housing unit. Making progress, but it’s a lot of work! Hope to post some before and after pics within the week.
My new favorite blog and blog friend: Tony at A Red Mind in a Blue State
A little over two weeks until our long-awaited-much-anticipated vacation and I can’t wait. I’m trying to get some good reads for the cruise. Any suggestions?
Still psyched over the Giants big win!
