A wild hair

Tonight we had just the right ingredients to make green smoothies. Flip Flop would be proud!

I’m sooooooo proud of hubs, who tried this without ANY complaints.

Kale, bananas, and strawberry smoothies

I take that back, Hubs did say, “I hope you get all the kale.”

Hehe.

They were pretty good, not as sweet as we wanted, but I didn’t allow us to add any sugar (or ice cream, which was Hubs request).

Hubs initially said we shouldn’t ruin a good fruit smoothie by adding kale because he thought kale didn’t have any nutritional value until/unless it’s boiled. But, according to Wiki, thats not true:

Kale is considered to be a highly nutritious vegetable, with powerful antioxidant properties and is anti-inflammatory.[1]

Kale is very high in beta carotene, vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin C, lutein and zeaxanthin and reasonably rich in calcium.

We’ll definitely be making green smoothies more often; it’s a great way to help ensure we’re getting our daily allowance of fruits and veggies.

Tomorrow we’ll try banana-kiwi kale.

On the 5k front, I repeated week two of my training and it went pretty well. The 90 second runs weren’t too difficult. Weather dependent, I take Cooper with me. He’s a good running buddy. I’m hoping the weather starts cooperating more- one day it’s 70 and the next it’s 32….that makes it very difficult to plan my training. But, I’m sticking with it and have run an estimated 18 miles in 3 weeks.

Today I was able to do of my all-time favorite activities…. sit in the oversized chair at the bookstore with a strawberry frappucinno in one hand and a good book in the other. It was raining outside and I could hear the spatter of the drops hitting the window from my chair.

I spent most of the time reading Wordpress for Dummies (which I ended up buying) and The Biggest Loser book. I once read a follow up article to The Biggest Loser series and it sounds like some of the methods the producers used to get results were insane. According to the article, participants often spent HOURS the night before a weight in roasting in a sauna to get rid of excess water weight. I’m pretty sure the article also said the participants weren’t allowed to drink water the day before or the day of the weight in…I’m not sure I believe that, though. Anyway, I picked up the book and browsed through it to see the before and after pics. I put the book back, though. I never intended on buying it, just wanted to see the pics.

Before I left, I also picked up CSS Web Design for Dummies and an anxiety and phobia workbook for Hubs (for his job).

I’m making an effort to read more, so maybe the web design books will help keep my interest.

Speaking of reading, I’m outtie. Hannah Montana is calling my name (LOVE that show)!
